Art Marks and My Tiny Pocket Journal

Have you heard of this Art marks Challenge? Well, I am here to tell you about it! As you know I’ve been working my way through the ICAD challenge on Instagram. Hard to believe that I am more than halfway through it! (I’ve decided to do a flip through video upon its completion so stay tuned!) I’ve been having so much fun with the challenge that I wanted to look for another one to participate in after the ICAD was finished. I recently stumbled upon the Art Marks challenge from Rae Missigman. While these two challenges will slightly overlap, I’m ok with it. It wouldn’t be a challenge if it was easy right?!

The art marks is a timed art challenge. You set your timer for 15 mins (more or less depending on how big your page is and you just create. All these details can be found on Rae’s blog, linked above.) The idea of timed art sounded fascinating. While the challenge is designed to just get you into your craft space and creating, I thought it would be the perfect way to warm up for some daily art! Truth be told, the idea of timed art also scared me! I always seem to work best after I’ve put in a bit of thinking and pre-planning into my art and layouts, sometimes taking days or weeks before committing, but as I am learning new techniques and growing as an artist this would be the perfect challenge to get me started! I hope you’ll join me on this fun 30-day journey on Instagram!

Rae also teamed up with artist Sandi Keene to create an online workshop for her Pocket Journals™.  While I’ve created many handmade journals in my time, I admit I was intrigued by using canvas and painting on the covers. (I’d never painted one of my creations before!) So I took the leap and purchased the course. I am so excited that I did! Let me tell you, the videos were fabulous, and short, which is always great for my ‘mom brain’. Rae and Sandi both create a Pocket Journal™  tutorial that walks you through each step easily. I love how both journals are so different and really reflect and showcase their designers. I was excited to dive into creating my own. I binge watched all the videos one night in bed and dreamt of lovely journal creations all night!

I knew I had some misc canvas in my fabric stash, so once I located that, it was GAME ON! While I didn’t take photos of my process in creating,  I wanted to share with you my finished product!

I loved adding all the bits, bobs and ribbon. Lord knows I had rolls and rolls of ribbon just waiting to be used! Be sure to check out Rae and Sandi’s class Here and also follow both of them on Instagram too! This is going to be a fun journey and I’m willing to bet one full of self-discovery and growth too! While I may not post every day’s journal page here, I will post daily photos on Instagram and do a ‘week in review’ on the blog! So be sure to stay tuned for that! Thanks for joining me on this journey and I look forward to seeing all your art marks creations too!

Happy Creating!
