This week was more difficult than I thought it would be. After being sick and then a water pipe outside our house bursting, needless to say, art took a back seat. Once I did find myself seated in front of my desk, I knew where I wanted to go with this week’s challenge.
I loved how Amber used the bright colors across the page. I was inspired to bring my rectangle shapes across the page as well, kind of strung along a ribbon, drawn in with a Posca black pen. I colored in the rectangle shapes with distress crayons. More than once, I had rubbed off the color to try a different palette. Luckily, the distress crayons are forgiving. I rubbed some broken china through the clock stencil (THS013) from Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous to bring some more color to the page.
Using some clear texture paste through another Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous stencil (THS006), I created the dots across the page diagonally. I broke out the Finnabair Alchemy Art Waxes (one of my absolute favorites! Not only does it give it a fabulous metallic look, it also smells amazing!) in the colors Brushed Iron and Vintage Silk.
At this point, I felt that the page looked flat. Using the Dylusions ink spray Vibrant Turquoise (in my Aquash pen), I drew in a ‘river’ of blue around the texture paste. I have to say leaving ‘white space’ was a lot harder for me than I thought it would be.
After a crazy week, it was nice to sit down and finally create. I was so excited to post my layout that I completely forgot to add some sort of sentiment. I thought about what I could write, but in the end, decided that not all art needed words. (Thanks Karen for encouraging me to just ‘let it be’.) Sometimes it is best to just let the art speak for itself!
I hope you enjoyed this week’s challenge! I look forward to seeing how this week’s layout inspired you! Don’t forget to post your layout to Instagram with the tag #inspiby.
As always, happy creating!
