This year I have been focusing on courage and creativity. I wanted to find a couple of weekly challenges that would keep me focused on being creative daily and practicing techniques while learning new ones.
A couple people I follow on Instagram had been posting about the ICAD challenge, and truthfully at first, I thought they were talking about some sort of computer programming challenge. (Laugh all you want haha… I DO realize now that I had been thinking of AutoCAD, but first thing in the morning and prior to coffee- well you can see how that would happen. *wink)
I took a bit of time and researched this ICAD- which as it turns out to mean “Index Card A Day”. Brilliant! With kids in school, I had a plethora of those buggers floating around my house. The challenge itself lasts 61 days and runs from June 1 -July 31, 2017. Weekly prompts get put up via Tammy Garcia’s blog Daisy Yellow Art. You can find the ICAD challenge info here, or if Instagram is more your thing, thank check her out there @gypsy999
I am challenging myself to not only finish this 61 days but to enjoy the process. It’s a small index card. It’s a way to test out new techniques or products. I’m hoping, for me, it will be a great way to learn more about how different mediums work together (or to find out that they don’t). You don’t have to be an artist to be a part of the challenge (thank goodness) and it’s free. Although you can choose, for a small fee, to be part of their Facebook group and receive emails along with other bonuses. If that interests you, there are more details covering that on her website. They have guidelines, but from what I gather, they are pretty loose. It’s just a way to get you creating every day for the next two months.
I’ll post day one’s prompt here but I probably won’t post my daily progress on the blog. I will follow up after a couple weeks (or a month) to check in with you all and let you know how it’s going! If you *would* like to see every day’s prompts, I will be posting them on my Instagram @happilywego. So be sure to come check me out!
I’m hoping you might also find this fun and join along too!
