I had so much fun creating this week’s #Inspiby Challenge layout. Continue reading “All Is Calm, All Is Bright”
This week I did a super simple layout. (That was the point of the prompt right?) I decided to whip out the ol’ Dina Wakley journal and flip it open to a double-page watercolor paper spread. I grabbed my Dyulsions and Lindy’s sprays and a couple stencils and went to town. I first sprayed the main design offset on one of the pages. While that dried, I took a sheet of 140 lb watercolor paper and sprayed a bunch of different colors through the butterfly stencil. Once dry I cut the butterflies I wanted to use on my layout out. Once I liked their placement, I glued them down with Art Glitter glue.
Then I took a white gel pen and traced around each of the butterflies, This wasn’t super visible all around them as there is a lot of white space, but it did leave a nice effect on some of the darker colors. I felt like maybe it was kinda blah, I’m not used to white space remember haha, so I took my fountain pen and inked some black around the outside edge of the butterflies (not on the page itself but on the outside edge of the actual cutout.).
Then I hand-typed up my sentiment, cut it out and glued it onto some black cardstock. Cut that out and glued it onto the layout. I used my white gel pen again to draw around each block of words, this helped tie in the white pen around the butterflies and just added a bit of eye appeal to the sentiment. Done and done. It seriously took me all of 10-15 mins to do, well the drying and the cutting did take a while. I had a wicked bad headache when I was doing my prompt this week. Life has been so chaotic with all the other things happening lately with HWG, but when I get into the #inspiby zone, it always makes me feel better! (Even if it’s for only 10-15 mins haha!)
Here are some pictures of my finished layout:
Here’s what the sentiment said:
and here’s a close up of the shimmer and shine of the butterfly wings. Have I told you lately how much I LOVE Lindy’s sprays?
I hope you had fun creating this week too! As I said previously, life has been chaos lately, but I look forward to each week’s prompt and getting to see how you all interpreted it! Until next week!
Hello All and Happy Sunday!

This week I was tired. Do you ever feel like the pressures of life and the day to day have just gotten you down? This time every year, it happens to me. Fall, which happens to be my favorite season also seems to be my hardest season. Allergies are at their worst here in Texas (well for me anyway), its the transition of getting back into the school routine and the start of the holiday season looming before me. Have you ever felt that way? Well this week, for the ‘Inspired By Challenge’, I created my girl with positive affirmations that flowed from her. Reminders to myself that it’s OK to feel the way I’m feeling and that it doesn’t make me less of a person, a mother, a wife, a friend- whatever hat you have donned, you are ENOUGH. I didn’t make a video this week, I was late in posting this, but ya know what, that’s OK! Everyone needs to stop and take a breather now and then and I am not going to let myself, well, beat myself up.
To begin, I grabbed my Dylusions landscape journal. I had yet to create in this journal and I thought this week was the perfect layout to break it in. I started by collaging some papers onto the pages.
I used some handmade papers with real pressed flowers, some decoupage papers from Deco Mache and The Paper Studio and kraft paper. I randomly ripped the papers and glued them in with matte medium. Then I took some white gesso and using my fingers, I painted it around parts of the page. With a charcoal pencil, I drew in my girl. I grabbed my watercolors and colored in around her to help warm up the layout. (I can’t tell you which brand I used because I created them myself! *wink) Using a fountain pen I wrote in the affirmations and positive notes to myself along the strands of her hair. Then using the charcoal pencil again I framed the layout.
Here is a close-up of my finished layout.
Sometimes you just need to quiet the negativity in your mind and just follow the flow of creativity. In the end, I really enjoyed creating my girl this week and many thanks to Toni for taking the fear out of drawing faces!
Happy Creating All!
Hello My Artsy Peeps!
So for the challenge this week I thought I would mix it up a bit! I had wanted to make another little mini book for myself to play with my watercolors, so why not combine the two! I decided to create my cover for the challenge. Check out my process video:

Hello My Artsy Friends!
Can you believe this is week 12?! I’m just giddy with excitement! When I first chose this week’s featured layout (see the post about that HERE), I was under the assumption that it wouldn’t take too terribly long and it would have a gorgeous color payoff. Well, I was right on both accounts! Continue reading ““Own Your Story””
This week’s challenge was so much fun! I don’t know about y’all but I enjoyed getting messy with this layout! Continue reading “‘Let Go’”
I had fully intended to make this week a picture by picture tutorial. It was a layout that took oodles and oodles of time to dry. (Picture me sitting impatiently sipping coffee literally watching paint dry!) But as this layout progressed and my frustrations grew, yeah, I forgot to snap pictures. What I did do however was learn quite a few lessons. So grab yourself a drink and let’s chat! Continue reading “Wishes & Fishes”
