Watercolors & Stencils Technique

Ok, so I’m sitting in my studio with these gorgeous watercolors that I just received from Designs by Rachel Beth and I’m immediately intimidated. Have you ever felt this way about your art supplies? I see all these gorgeous fluid watercolor flower paintings and landscapes online and I’m just like WOW. Buuuut, when I attempt them myself, it ends up in a hot mess of paint. Ok, so to the point, (I promise I’m getting to it!) I’m sitting in my office and it dawns on me- stencils! I wonder if there is a way to use watercolors with them? I use stencils with all my other paints right? So why not!

Now, I am not saying that I created this technique, heck it’s probably been floating around the interwebs for years, but I had never seen it done so I just went for it. Here was my first creation using the Let’s go Camping set from Rachel’s shop.

Aren’t those colors gorgeous? Well after that attempt, I was really getting into it and wanted to try layers and layers of watercolor and stencils. I grabbed my camera and my art supplies and went to town.

You can see my video here:

Fun right! Now you have a new way to use both your watercolors and your stencils! Be sure to check out Rachel’s shop! Her paints are handcrafted and just divine! I hope you have a wonderful day and are enjoying those last few weeks of summer before school starts! (I’m actually looking forward to it starting and counting down the days, but shhh don’t tell my kids! *Wink)

Happy Creating!

XO-Erin
