I really enjoyed the Inspiby this week. It was a busy week for me as our company arrived and of course, the house needed cleaning in preparation. This week was definitely a lesson in letting go of perfection. Not only with my house preparations but also with my art. It seemed like every time I turned to grab something, I smeared some pen lines or I messed up while trying to stamp a layer.
In the end, when I stepped back and saw what I created, I thought, not bad Erin, not too shabby after all (even despite the couple mistakes that seemed to just yell out to me as I stared at the page).
For my background, I used a combination of Dylusions ink sprays in Vibrant Turquoise, Pure Sunshine, Funky Fuschia, Fresh Lime and Lindy’s Stamp Gang (LSG) sprays in: Bougainvillea Fuschia, Maidenhair Fern Green, and Golden Sleigh Bells. I had been so excited when Karen chose this week’s inspiby challenge layout as I had just received my gorgeous fairy stamps from Lavinia Stamps. I stamped a mirror image of the larger fairy using a Gelli plate.
It didn’t turn out perfect, but that’s where the Faber Castell black Pitt pen came in. (You just go over the stamped image carefully and color it in.) I have been obsessed with fluorescent and neon colors lately so I just knew that the fairy garden plant life would be vibrant. I first stamped them with black Archival ink onto cardstock, fussy cut them, then glued them onto the page using a matte medium. I colored them in with my Faber Castell Big Brush markers for the base coat and then using my favorite Sakura Moonlight gel pens, I added the detail. These are not only neon colors, but also color brightly onto black (or dark colored) surfaces as well! I painted the corners of the layout with black gesso giving it a more windowed feel and painted over the black gesso with LSG Screamin’ Banshee Black to give the black a hint of blue shimmer. Using the Dyan Reavely Flower Flourish stencil and some Pearl Adirondack Metallics paint, I created the vine effect around the layout. I felt like the pearly white stuck out too much so I painted over it with the vibrant turquoise Dylusions spray (that I’ve filled my Pentel aquash pen with). To give it a hint more color I colored in the middle of the leaves with Fresh Lime (also Dylusions filled into an aquash pen). I outlined all the elements of the page with the black Pitt pen as well. It just helped define each piece more. I painted in the rocks with white gesso. Once dry, I drizzled some Buccaneer Bay Blue LSG spray, just for some added color and of course some sparkle too! It was hard to get a picture that truly captured all the sparkles of the page.
But trust me when I tell you that in the sun, this page sparkles and shimmers! To finish off the layout I added Star Dust Stickles to the fairy wings and to the sentiment. This week I let go and got in touch with the magic and wonder of the Fairy world. I look forward to creating more fun layouts like this in the future! I hope you’ve had as much fun with the this week’s challenge as I have!
