Workshop with Anna Dabrowska, a.k.a. Finnabair

You guys!  I can hardly contain my excitement! I got to take a workshop with Finnabair! What an experience! I had been looking forward to the event for months. It was a two and a half hour drive AND I got to stay overnight as well! I can’t even tell you the last time that I both ate and slept in a bed alone. This was a solo trip and for me, that’s a scary thing! Do one thing that scares you daily right? Well, I am pretty sure I am all caught up for the next couple months after this trip! (HAHA)

Day one we created the moonlight double canvas. I was immediately intimidated but Anna is so super sweet and explains everything, which is wonderful. I reminded myself that I needed to just put my over thinking overactive brain on pause and just let my artsy intuition lead me, and am so happy that I did. I’d never worked with so many bits and bobs before, especially all together!

This is the amazing goodies bag that greeted me when I sat down!

Here was our first Demo session where Anna showed us how to start our creations.

We each got to choose a stencil to create the first layer on the canvas. Just look at this gorgeous stencil! You KNOW I had to get one of these to take home with me! *wink

Here is a shot of how we stenciled across both canvases. The class was 5 hours (2:30-7:30 pm)  so we had to do a LOT of drying in order to get the entire thing done within the time frame.

Could you not love these little houses anymore! They were the tiniest little wooden chip board pieces created specifically for Finnabair by Scrapiniec.

Then we added all our bits and bobs to frame the houses and create a grounding for them, and also up in the top corner where the moon would go. I admit when I first stuck it all down I was like- these colors, oh my, how is this going to look. It was a scary step! But then you paint EVERYTHING with black gesso and the magic happens!

Using some Sparks paints and  Art Alchemy waxes, we finished our creations. I admit I am hopelessly in love with this double canvas! It has gears and screw heads and it’s a night scene, which if you know me at all, you know is my FAVORITE kind of scenes!

Here was a quick snap of Anna and me after what ended up being an extremely long 6 hours of ‘arting’.  I dunno about her, but I was sure sweaty and tired and SUPER hungry (I never ended up getting dinner until after 9 pm)! She was such a wonderful teacher and also so down to earth. I look forward to the next time I can create with her again!

I had to include this because I thought it was so funny! You know you’ve been creating with Anna when you have wax all over your hands and arms! (It’s a blending technique and if you’ve taken a class with her then you will know what I mean! *wink)

Here are some close-up shots of my finished Moonlight Canvas.

The second day we created Sparkley Journals. We received another bag of amazing goodies along with Finnabair’s denim journal. While I didn’t get process pictures of this class, I still wanted to share with you a picture of my finished Journal.

It was hard to get a good shot of all the sparkle! There are so many elements in this one! I got to use materials I hadn’t worked with before and some new techniques of how to use things that I had! If Anna comes to a town near you and you are able to get into one of her workshops- I highly recommend taking it! It was an experience that I will never forget!

Happy Creating!
